FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions:

How does it work?
Using our one-size-fits-all, double-sided mouthpiece / lens, a special whitening gel and other essential ingredients are applied to two foam strips. A commercial-spectrum blue LED with precise settings is positioned between the upper and lower teeth and forces activation of the gel. The bleaching solution penetrates the tooth enamel but does not damage the enamel. Once the stains are removed, they will attach themselves to the foam strips.

How long will this process last?
6 months to two years is not unusual, but we do recommend that you care for your newly bleached teeth with our KeepBright Pen. Typically, we recommend pursuing another treatment every six months.

How long does the process take and what are the results?
Results can vary, as everyone is different. The grade of your teeth and your age can affect the process, but we recommend a 20-minute treatment.

group smileIs this safe?
Research has shown that if the teeth and gums are normal and healthy, then there are no adverse effects to bleaching one's teeth. It is important that the dosage is within the legal limits and not excessive and that the treatment be administered in a professional manner. People with tooth decay and with any type of gum disease should avoid this treatment. We do not treat pregnant woman – there are no known side effects but it is an important precaution. Vitamin E is always used to reduce any irritation.

Who may benefit from the whitening system?
Almost everyone can enjoy the benefits of a tooth-bleaching process, if their teeth and gums are healthy. Remember, teeth can not be bleached whiter than genetically possible. Tetracycline stains cannot be removed. Also, when stains result from excessive fluorides or if the teeth are porous, minimal results can be expected. Except in the instances outlined above, about 95% of our clients experience success with this process.

I have a crown on my anterior or front teeth. Will your product whiten my crown?
No, but the standard procedure is to first whiten all the adjacent teeth and then wait two weeks for the color to stabilize. At that time you can go to your dentist and have them match the crown to the new shade of your teeth. However, if a crown has been in place for many years, the whitening process can return the rest of the teeth to their original shade prior to the crown placement. The same is true for composites, bridges, and veneers.

Will the gel and peroxide you offer be the same as from my family dentist?
Absolutely! Our supplier’s partner actually provides a great deal of products to dentists' offices throughout the nation. The carbamide peroxide that SmileBright uses is in some cases more potent than what your dentist uses, while of course, within legal limits. The key to the success of our whitening system is our blue-light technology which increases the power of the whitening agent yet takes just a fraction of the time and cost.

Is this procedure done by a dentist?
This bleaching process is provided by certified professionals in the teeth-whitening business, who are not necessarily dentists.

What causes stains?
Some teeth are naturally pigmented or stained as they develop. Teeth also tend to stain as a person ages. Typically, stains come from exposure to tea, coffee, smoking, juices, colas, wine, or just about anything that would stain a white tee shirt. This is why we highly recommend the KeepWhite Pen to stay bright.

Are there any side effects?
Some people may feel a little tingling sensation, white gum line, or sensitivity, all of which are normal and hold no real danger. Typically, the side effects last only for a couple of hours and do not exceed 24 hours.

How long before I can eat or drink after my treatment?
We recommend that you avoid coffee, tea, dark-colored sodas, red wines, berries, candy, red sauces, beets, or any foods that have the propensity to stain, for the first 24 hours. Remember if the food will stain a tee shirt, it will stain your teeth.
